Why I Started I Am Purposed
I grew up as a shy girl with big dreams. I struggled with self-esteem and self-image all through middle school and high school and was only able to overcome that and begin to love myself when I began to really understand that I was created on purpose, with purpose, and for a purpose. In 2015, I released my first book which opened the door for me to speak at many different events across the Houston area and ultimately helped me realize that my purpose is to empower women, teens, and girls.
A year later, I entered into the field of education. It was then that I began to see firsthand a huge need in the lives of my students, especially my girls. I recognized a lot of the issues they were facing stemmed from the same thing I struggled with at their age, not understanding my worth or realizing my life had a significant purpose. I knew that if we could teach them early about valuing who they were made to be, it would literally change the trajectory of their lives. So, in 2017, I founded the I Am Purposed Foundation and hosted my first event.
Since then, the organization has expanded into conferences, events, and mentorship programs. We are most proud of fostering a safe, supportive environment for our girls to thrive in as they connect with other like-minded girls and empowering them to overcome the many challenges young women go through during their coming-of-age years. We have had the opportunity to reach girls nationwide with our message and we look forward to the opportunity to impact many more.
